Laguiole Knives MADE IN FRANCE

As long as 100 years ago, a knife, similar to this one, kept the shepherds company in the solitude of the Auvergne (high plateau in France), far away from any human dwelling. A cross (using metal pins) was flush-mounted into the handle of the knife (hence today’s term - “Shepherd’ Cross”). When the shepherd stuck the knife upright into the ground, he could pray in front of it. You will find this shepherd’s cross also in the knives of the ‘Gravure edition‘!

Action and reaction, ebb and flow, trial and error, change - this is the rhythm of living. Out of our over-confidence, comes fear; out of fear, comes clearer vision, fresh hope. And out of hope, progress. Bruce Barton

This knife is, considering its futuristic design of lightweight high-quality materials and the modern technique, the logical evolution of an old knife tradition into the modern age.

The colourful marbled candy canes of 'Berlingot' from the 17th century were the inspiration that sparked the naming of this set of kitchen knives. Best quality and impeccably polished for maximum comfort, a beautiful look and feel and the bee as typical Laguiole design element.

Since the fourteenth century, the bishop town of Thiers has produced knives whose exceptional quality is well known throughout France. These knives were at one time so valuable that they were passed down as an heirloom from father to oldest son. Unlike Laguiole knives, a Thiers knife may only be manufactured by knife makers sanctioned by the "Confrérie du Couté de Tié". The blade of every Thiers knife also features the original "T" logo or "Le Thiers" with the name of the maker in the upper-right corner, both of which are protected trademarks!
