REAL LAGUIOLE? Guaranteed with A.I.P.C.L. certification!

We are co-founders and members of the A.I.P.C.L. -- www.aipcl.com -- (L'Association international des proprietaires de couteaux Laguiole) whose goal is the preservation of the Laguiole tradition.

When a Laguiole knife maker devotedly practices his craft, and creates with each knife a handcrafted, unique work of art, he does so always with the knowledge that such knives are frequently and cheaply produced en masse by machines and marketed as true Laguiole products.

Buyers who expect a real "made in France" Laguiole are often met with disappointment and irritation when they receive a low-quality product. As far as quality and craftsmanship goes, true Laguiole knives blow these cheap products out of the water.

AIPCL, Echtheitszertifikat, Laguiole

The A.I.P.C.L. is currently the only organization that issues a uniform certificate of authenticity for almost every French knife maker. This means you can rest assured that you will receive a 100% true, made-in-France Laguiole.
The A.I.P.C.L. is officially supported by the most important of these knife makers, like Laguiole en Aubrac, Arbalete G. David, Honoré Durand, Le Fidele, Claude Dozorme, Phillipe Voissierés, Line-Golz, and many more.

Should you have any questions about Laguiole knives, we will be more than glad to assist you.

Laguiole, the place and the knives: Interesting background information

Laguiole, a peaceful village, is the capital city of the agricultural region of Aubrac in the French department of Aveyron in the region of Midi-Pyrénées. The village, around 1,000 m (3,280 ft.) above sea-level, lies between the well-known cities of Toulouse, Montpellier and Clermont-Ferrand.

Be it for a ski vacation, hiking or golf, Laguiole is worth a visit year-round for the active vacationer. It also offers a breath-taking landscape, making it an equally optimal destination for relaxation. Miles of paths and hiking trails through the Aubrac mountains, outlooks with breath-taking panoramic views, as well as tracks for fitness, horseback riding and mountain biking, are among the many things the region has to offer. Romantic cafés welcome visitors with a relaxing ambiance, while nearby Restaurants offer a superb culinary experience. Enthusiasts of gastronomy will also find numerous points of interest in the region.

AIPCL, Echtheitszertifikat, Laguiole The ancient village is characterized by its archaic ruins, offering a glimpse into the past. The buildings dating back to the sixteenth century, like the main church on the outskirts of town, give the village a historic ambiance and a unique flair. Granite, slate and basalt are the main components of the historically rich houses, giving the village a certain charm. The picturesque, narrow streets, as well as the old ruins, are reminiscent of the films of the Beast of Gévaudan, a creature whose mischief was attested starting in 1764 (according to historical accounts). For many years, the beast left the villagers outside of Laguiole holding their breaths. The Beast of Gévaudan skinned countless animals. The deaths of 102 people, exclusively women and children, were also pinned on the monster.

When you take a walk through the streets of Laguiole, you can easily send yourself back to the seventeenth century and imagine what life was like for the people who lived and worked there daily.
Had the world-renowned Laguiole pocketknives already existed, one or two villagers might have been able to defend themselves from the beast! For the village of Laguiole represents this traditional knife, handcrafted with love in the details and high quality standards. No creature or beast would have stood a chance against a Laguiole pocketknife...

The traditional handcrafting of knives in Laguiole

Since the eighteenth century, knife making has been a traditional craft of the region. The first Laguiole pocketknives were created as early as 1829, and eventually became a standard tool for every farmer.
Nowadays, the Laguiole pocketknife, with its symbolic character, is one of the most celebrated knives in France. Many herds of animals call the region home, and the livestock sector is one of the region's largest sources of income. This is how a deep connection was established between Laguiole and its knife, whose handling, grip and versatility cannot be beat. The residents are proud of the fine handiwork that has since become well-known and much sought-after.
The precious knives are a part of Laguiole that is accompanied by a long history and a very special mark; something which virtually every other knife lacks.
